Teamwork is a high priority in our firm. This is enhanced by regular reviews of each trust and monthly staff meetings. A collaborative approach to discretionary decision making is very important. While each staff member has specific duties, we are dedicated to cross training internally and professional training externally.
Founder and owner, Stephen W. Trefts, has over 30 years of trust management experience. A graduate of Gonzaga University School of Law, he was admitted to the Washington State Bar in 1976. Prior to founding Northwest Trustee & Management Services, he served as a Trust Officer for Seattle First National Bank (now Bank of America) and later as the Executive Vice President of the Whitworth College Foundation. Current affiliations include: Washington State Bar Association; Spokane County Bar Association; Spokane Estate Planning Council; Inland Northwest Planned Giving Council; Dishman Hills Conservancy Board; and former Northwest Christian Schools Foundation, Board Chairman.
Greg Bowman, CPA, is a native of Auckland, New Zealand, and oversees the financial, human resources, and operational functions at Northwest Trustee & Management Services. He also works closely with the President to coordinate business development plans. Greg joined the team in 2013 with over a decade of experience in the area of accounting, finance, investments, and organizational strategy. He is a graduate of George Fox University majoring in Business Administration (Finance) and Accounting. Greg has previously worked as a Senior Accountant for KPMG and a Manager at Deloitte & Touche, New Zealand, where he managed projects and teams in mergers and acquisitions, corporate valuations, and financial due diligence. After leaving New Zealand Greg held the role of Chief Financial Officer for a large not-for-profit organization in Africa. In addition to leading a team of ten staff in the finance department, he worked closely with the Board of Directors to restructure the organization and ensure the long term financial sustainability of the not-for-profit. Greg has served on various charitable Boards in New Zealand, Indonesia, and Kenya. He currently is a member of the Washington State Board of Accountancy, the Spokane Estate Planning Council and also assists his church in downtown Spokane in the area of finance and accounting.
Raelene joins our team as senior trust officer with over 25 years of professional experience. Raelene has held roles as Gift Planning & Development Director for Northwest Christian Schools and most recently for Christ Clinic/Christ Kitchen. These two roles focused heavily on trust and estate planning methods, as well as growing the outreach of the organizations by developing strong donor relations, planned giving strategies, and leading teams to complete marketing initiatives. Previously, she held the role of Vice President of the consulting division of a community bank in California (Foothill Independent Bank) and subsequently as an independent consultant in Spokane. She received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California State Polytechnic University in Pomona. Raelene is a member of the Spokane Estate Planning Council and will be using her experience to manage our complex trusts and estates, as well as assisting in marketing.
Cam McGillivray joined our firm as in-house counsel and trust officer. A graduate of City University in Bellevue, Washington, with a Bachelor of Science degree in management, Cam received his Juris Doctor degree from the Seattle University School of Law and was admitted into the Washington State Bar in November 2006. Prior to joining our firm, Cam was an associate at Lyon's Law Offices, P.S., in Seattle, and brings with him experience in estate planning and trust and estate litigation. Cam is a member of the Spokane Estate Planning Council, the Inland Northwest Planned Giving Council, and the Spokane County Bar Association.
Joni joins our team as a Trust Officer. She is a recent graduate of Eastern Washington University, earning a Magna cum Laude in both her Bachelors of Science in Economics and a Bachelors of Arts in Government. In addition to her service oriented background, she has proven her analytical abilities and was selected to present her research paper at the 2014 National Conference for Undergraduate Research in Kentucky. Previously, Joni worked at T-Mobile and AT&T in their client services departments where she was tasked with resolving customer issues and analyzing accounts.
Jaime has worked for Northwest Trustee and Management Services for many years in different roles and currently serves as Trust Accounting Assistant. She reconciles brokerage and bank statements, assists with the preparation of financial reports, serves as back up for trust deposits and disbursements, and provides other administrative support as needed. Jaime has an A.A.S. degree in Secretarial Administration from Spokane Falls Community College.
Michele Williams is our Trust Administrator. Working closely with our Trust Officers, she completes some of the day-to-day administration of our current trusts, assists in opening new trusts, and administrates our ILITS . She has used her accounting background in many roles before joining us last spring as Trust Administrator. These have included: tracking employee work performance, being a department manager for forty employees, documenting loans for a bank, portfolio accounting and accounts receivable/accounts payable. Michele enjoys workouts, cooking and time with her family.
As our office Administrative Assistant, Shirley answers phones, schedules appointments, coordinates travel and speaking engagements and performs a myriad of other tasks which keep the office organized and operating smoothly. Shirley has Associate Degrees in Paralegal Studies and Office Administration and past experience in both fields. Additionally, she speaks fluent Spanish.
As the Trust Account Clerk, Janie processes deposits, disbursements and fees for trusts, maintains financial data and spreadsheets, and provides specialized reports to assist with trust administration. Prior to joining our firm, Janie was an accountant for a legal firm. A native of Boston, she attended Eastern Nazarene College where she studied Social Work.
Jan is primarily responsible for the completion of our trust tax returns (Form 1041) as well as the individual tax returns we often complete for our clients. Previously she had a career as an office administrator and tax preparer where she was responsible for extensive business accounting and preparing individual tax returns. Jan and her husband have raised between them, five children. She enjoys gardening, woodworking and her grand children.
Carole is the part-time business accountant for Northwest Trustee & Management Services. She reconciles the firm's trust account and handles the quarterly tax accounting. She graduated with honors from Colorado College with a degree in Economics.
As our Office Assistant, Teri handles filing and archiving. She also covers the front desk for a few hours a day. Prior to joining our staff, Teri worked in the office Kingdom Kids Adoption Ministries. She has also worked as a bank teller and in customer service.
